Alpamayo Itinerary

Daily itinerary: This itinerary may differ to circumstances out of our control.

  1. Lima: Arrive in Lima after your international flight. A representative will meet you at the airport and transfer you to our hotel.
  2. Huaraz: Drive for eight hours to Huaraz located at an elevation of 10,000 feet and check into to hotel..
  3. Huaraz: We take an acclimatization day with sightseeing and a gear check.
  4. Llama Corral: Drive for three hours to the village of Cashapampa which is located at an elevation of 9,000 feet. This is where the trail
      starts and after organizing our animal loads we trek to Llama Corral which is located at an elevation of 11,500 feet where we camp for
      the night.
  5. Base Camp: We continue the trek passing the Santa Cruz lakes until arriving at the valley that sits beneath Alpamayo. We establish our
      base camp at treeline at an elevation of 13,500 feet.
  6. Base Camp: We make a carry to the moraine camp at an elevation of 16,000 feet which is located at the edge of the glacier. We then
      return to base camp for the evening.
  7. Base Camp: Rest day.
  8. Moraine Camp: Move to Moraine Camp.
  9. Col Camp: We climb to the Col Camp which is located at an elevation of 18,000 feet. This is usually the most challenging day on the
       expedition with a couple of ice-tool pitches on the broken glacier.
10. Col Camp: If the team is feeling good and acclimatized we may make a summit attempt of Alpamayo and descend to the Col Camp.
11. Col Camp: Rest day.
12. Col Camp: If the team is feeling good we have the chance to attempt the summit of Quitaraju. The climb involves a short trek across the
       glacier to access the North Face. The climb is not as steep as Alpamayo but significantly longer and consists of roughly 12 pitches of
       two tool climbing.
13. Base Camp: Contingency day in case of bad weather.
14. Base Camp: Descend to base camp.
15. Camping: We start the trek for the 15 miles towards Cashapampa.
16. Huaraz: We arrive at Cashapampa where our transport will meet us and take us back to Huaraz.
17. Lima: We drive back to Lima. Those wishing to fly home may do so as most North American flights depart very late. Those climbers with
       more relaxed schedules may wish to spend the evening enjoying Lima.
